03.18.2008: email from a friend... Quotation from Barack Obama...
'My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it.'
-- Barack Obama
Now, just think about that one for a few minutes...
03.17.2008: From NewsMax.com, August 9, 2007... Reverend Wright quotes...
In recent years, Wright has focused his diatribe on America's war on terror and the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
For a February 2003 service, Wright placed a "War on Iraq IQ Test" on the Pastor's Page of the church Web site. The test consisted of a series of questions and answers that clearly portrayed America as the aggressor, and the war as unjustified and illegal. Marginally relevant issues regarding Israel received attention.
The test also portrayed the Iraqi people as victims of trade sanctions, but Saddam Hussein's propensity for using "oil for food" proceeds to build palaces rather than buy medicine was never mentioned.
At the end of the test, the pastor wrote, "Members of Trinity are asked to think about these things and be prayerful as we sift through the ‘hype' being poured on by the George Bush-controlled media." Obama's campaign staff did not respond to a NewsMax request for the senator's response to Wright's statements.
Barack, do you have the cojones to tell it like it is? Are you on the Wright side or do you think he's a moron? Fess up!
From the Asia Times .....
Obama's South Carolina victory speech was the economic equivalent of a carnival snake-oil pitch.
He promised to "stop giving tax breaks to rich companies and instead put the money in the pockets of struggling homeowners who can't pay their mortgages",
and at the same time stop the export of American jobs overseas, while raising everyone's wages.
The crowd chanted, "Yes we can! Yes we can!"
Excuse me: No, you can't.
You can't keep inefficient American factories open without massive tax breaks to corporations, in the form of tariffs or otherwise. In 1992, voters rejected the same message from Ross Perot, who warned that free trade with Mexico would create a "giant sucking sound" as American jobs disappeared, and chose the free-trader Bill Clinton. But that was then: this is now.
....
No, Obama, you can't. You can't blame America's trading partners for the loss of manufacturing jobs, and at the same time persuade them to replace the misspent capital of the American banking system. You can't persuade the world to fund hundreds of billions of dollars a year of American home mortgages, and protect the employment of a few hundred workers at Maytag.
....
What precisely does that mean? "The teacher who works another shift at Dunkin' Donuts needs us to reform the educational system to raise her pay." Is the Federal government planning to subsidize teachers' salaries, which in America are paid by local school boards with city and state taxes? Is he really planning to raise corporate taxes and subsidize mortgage payments?
If Reagan offered "voodoo economics", as his opponents charged, Obama is selling Cargo Cult economics. After World War II, New Guinea aborigines build model airfields to entice the gods to bring them "cargo". They watched American soldiers build airstrips and land cargo planes, and sought to accomplish the same through sympathetic magic. Given the culture of the aborigines and their observations, anthropologists aver, making radios and observation towers out of straw and coconuts was a rational response. Something similar might be said of the position of the American middle class.
Higher taxes on corporations will NOT solve the problems Obama seeks to solve, and anyone who believes that those policies will work will be in for the inevitable rude surprise within a year or two of the passage of any such bills.
FDR started us down that path.
The problem today is that the damaging or disastrous effects are not seen or felt for a year or two after the policies are put into effect.
At that time, the media and the voters have long forgotten the CAUSE of their misery, and put the blame, inevitably, again, on the wrong parties, so the cures which are then demanded compound the problem, not alleviate it.
Here we go again. Again.
Jobs have not left the United States because we shipped them over there. They left because Americans priced themselves out of the market by demanding raises and benefits which were totally out of line with the contributed value of the jobs themselves. The world-wide free market and competition bought those jobs on the cheap.
We have met the enemy, and it is our own government's fiscal policies, compounded by an uneducated electorate which does not understand how basic economics, let alone world trade economics works. FDR started the "I want it, therefore I deserve it, therefore someone should give it to me" thinking in the United States.
If Obama thinks his solutions will work, I invite you all to wait two years after his --- or Hillary's equally socialist "solutions" are put into place. Higher taxes on businesses will drive more OUT of business and jobs will continue to move overseas as a result.
But you and the media will have long since forgotten what I've said here, and will, again, be pinning the blame on the wrong donkey.
Morons.
