One would think a man with four stars on his collar leading U.S. forces in Afghanistan just one year ago would have no problem working with military leadership in the fight against militants of the so-called Islamic State at present.

But for retired Marine Gen. John Allen, who was appointed by President Obama in September as special envoy to lead the global coalition to counter the militant group, that calculus has been wrong.   http://www.businessinsider.com/military-leaders-general-john-allen-rift-2014-10

  • Is Obama a Keynesian? Now I'm really embarrassed to live in the same country as these people...
  • I usually don't react to anything Krugman writes: he is so clearly out of touch with the real world that it is irrelevant to me. This was proven when he won the Nobel Prize in Economics, demonstrating once again that (except for the hard sciences), the Nobel Committee is voting on politics and not accomplishment. Hey, at least President Obama recognized this when he got his, and kudos to him for this solid grasp on reality.

But http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/02/opinion/krugman-nobody-understands-debt.html?_r=2 brings the phrase "out of touch" to a new level. My favorite quotes include:

"families have to pay back their debt. Governments don't"

Oh, really? We can just ignore the debt, not bother to pay it back, forget servicing it, because while a family might have their house repossessed, nothing bad will ever happen to a government which refuses to honor their obligations, as people will happily lend money in ever increasing quantities to someone who refuses to pay off their current obligations. This is clearly the thought process of a Nobel Prize winning economist…

"an over-borrowed family owes money to someone else; U.S. debt is, to a large extent, money we owe to ourselves".

Oh, really? So if the government does an Emily Littela and says "Never mind" on the debt that is owed, all of the US citizens who own now worthless government bonds won't suffer any financial harm at all when something that was worth $50, $100, or a couple thousand bucks is now so much waste paper.

"foreigners tend to put their U.S. investments into safe, low-yield assets".

The key word in that sentence is "safe", which US bonds will no longer be if we accept Krugman's view that we don't need to pay back anything.

"nations with stable, responsible governments — that is, governments that are willing to impose modestly higher taxes when the situation warrants it".

So the definition of "responsible" means "tax anytime you want as much as you want without understanding the consequences on the citizens, as long as you get to demonize your political opponents".

"Britain, in particular, has had debt exceeding 100 percent of G.D.P. for 81 of the last 170 years".

Because, of course, Britain is a model of economic growth and prosperity, right?

"We need more, not less, government spending to get us out of our unemployment trap".

$16.5T in debt is not enough, we can and should go for $20T, $30T, anything rather than admit that we can't afford a socialist utopia.

  • 12.09.2011: "The Death of Customer Service"

    Conversation on the Economist Blog...

    from the article at http://www.economist.com/node/21541407

In a speech to a more modest crowd in the local high school, Mr Obama said much the same. Getting into the middle class and staying there has been growing ever harder in recent years, he lamented, and yet the rich have got ever richer. The solution, he maintained, is higher taxes on the wealthy to fund more investment in education and infrastructure while keeping America's debt in check. The alternative, he said, was a "you're on your own" economy, marked by falling wages, rising pollution and emasculated unions.

Mr Obama was at pains to make clear that he had no wish to punish success or suggest that government had the solution to every problem. "This isn't about class warfare," he said at one point. "This is about the nation's welfare." The word "fair" cropped up again and again: the rich should pay their "fair share" of taxes; poorer Americans should get a "fair shot" at success; it was "the height of unfairness" that billionaires should pay a lower effective tax rate than middle-class folk.

Dec 8th 2011 21:23 GMT As I've posted on many blogs in the past year or two, "the problem is" that the US electorate has drunk the FDR kool-aid and grown up, generation after generation, now expecting "equal RESULTS" when the goal should be "equal opportunity" as it was originally expressed.

Obama and all other liberal/populists play to that kool-aid crowd and the crowd continues to drink it up.

If we're lucky, there will be an "American Spring" of people waking up to the idea the equal opportunity does NOT mean, nor should the government be in the business of providing equal RESULTS, and all efforts to provide that have failed and will always fail.

But I'm not betting on that to happen in my lifetime (I just turned 66.)

As a blogger from Australia clarified for me a few months ago, the intergalactic corporations now own virtually all governments in the world. You can see that clearly by noticing all of the laws that have miraculously come into being to provide for THEIR needs and wants and not for the citizen voters.

More evidence is obvious when poll after poll reminds us that most American voters think THEIR congressional representative is doing a good job, yet at the same time believe that "Congress is broken."

Two interesting thoughts to hold in one mind at the same time, eh?

Final proof of the hopelessness follows those statements logically, as the re-election rate for members of our Congress is staggeringly high.

"We" think they're morons and that they're constantly and perpetually doing the wrong things, yet "we" re-elect them religiously.

Critical thinking has died and may never see its own resurrection, so long as most of the electorate believes that it's the business of government to create jobs and provide EVERYTHING the electorate wants... and "the government will pay for it."

That fiction is driving us into the ground and the poor house.

    teacup775 in reply to plusafdotcom

Dec 9th 2011 5:26 GMT Considering the Arab Spring is a revolt against entrenched crony power, and that this is the problem facing America, I doubt the issue is going to over a revolt of the equality in results.

I find there is a disconnect here. The voiced worry over equality of results, when the rage has been leveled exactly at the crony control of the state. Outsourcing, and the overwhelming political influence of corporations are the issues of the day. It is they and their CEOs that receive millions of dollars come failure or success. If you ask who's gettting equality of results its a tiny vastly rich minority, not joe sixpack.

    Teacup775... yep, there's a disconnect, and I'm sorry, but it's not mine...

Yes, we're very pissed about the phenomenal bucks that Failures-As-CxO's keep getting, but some of us recognize that as not a government problem, but a Board-Of-Directors' and Compensation Committees' total foul up.

But the other war going on is the 99%-ers versus the 1%-ers, and the 99-ers have a common mantra... we want ours, and if it's yours, you should give it to us because we want it.

If you're not in America, you might get the wrong impression of that fact from most of the US' mainscream news outlets.

If you're in America and you're thinking that, you're an example of what I was trying to say: people who want equal RESULTS when it's not yours, mine or the government's real charter to provide that.

It's tempting, of course, like most addictive drugs, but in the end, it causes disaster. You probably think that Ayn Rand's predictions in Atlas Shrugged weren't prescient, too, right?

    They were.

And YES, most of the crap here between Congress and Big Business IS crony power and mutual back scratching (and sometimes other-things-scratching,) but as I said before, if most of Congress gets re-elected by THE ELECTORATE, and Big Business can't make a mark on a ballot inside the voting booth, it gets a little tiring to ONLY hear complaints that blame Big Business OR politicians OR Congress for "all our woes."

Congress initiates laws. The Executive Branch EXECUTES them. If nobody is willing to change Congress, they have pretty much themselves to blame.

By the way, since you mention outsourcing... meaning off shoring, right? There are several REAL culprits who contributed to that... Fast, inexpensive international data communications...

the Internet, which allows ANYONE, ANYWHERE in the world to do ANY job that does NOT require face-to-face with their customer.

fast, inexpensive trans-ocean shipping, which competed well with the faster but more expensive air transport, even for heavy, high-value items. The new container ships are BIG and FAST. They compete well.

and because of those two, any place in the world with citizens who are bright enough and hard working enough and want a better standard of living AND CAN DO JOBS like manufacturing or assembly which DO require their hands to touch the actual products... WILL make it cheaper to "make stuff over there."

For years, I've forecast that for cheap labor assembly, Japan would be eclipsed by China [done deal], China and Japan and even India would outsource to other CHEAPER countries... [Vietnam, South Korea... --- happening now] and that the LAST DOMINO in that chain will be Sub-Saharan Africa [which I predict is still a decade or three away from competing, but who knows?]

The disconnect is with folks that can't connect the dots and use real critical thinking to see these connections, but prefer to believe the mainscream media and not do the heavy lifting (thinking) for themselves...

but hey, in America, where were they taught to think?

    government-run, highly-unionized, non-competition Public Schools.

I rest my case. Have a nice day... and life.

  • 11.15.2011: "The Death of Customer Service"

From a California friend of mine, via email...

.... this weekend I explained the death of "customer service" to my wife.

You see, since companies have set up so many rules for their employees, they can no longer make rational decisions without the fear of losing their jobs. The case in point occurred at our local Safeway; my wife wanted a single flower for her hair. The two employees behind the flower counter could only sell her a complete plant.

There was a distressed orchid, obviously on its last legs, and she offered to buy the one remaining flower in good condition. They refused apologetically, but still refused, stating they could only sell the whole plant – even though, they conceded, that they would be removing it later to the dumpster as a distressed item.

They repeatedly said they would lose their jobs if they did otherwise, for others before them had.

Perplexed, my wife could not comprehend how she was willing to save from the dreadful fate of a dumpster, for just one day of glory, this beautiful specimen of nature. To her it was on a par with killing a child.

The point here is for all the talk about customer service, we have created so many rules that it can't possibly exist. Nordstrom is probably the only large company that gives their employees full authority to please the customer . . . their mantra is "use your best judgment". SueAnn worked there for a time so that's her understanding of customer service.

This represents the systemic paralysis of our civilization with too many rules! Amazingly, even Jerry Brown recently refused to sign several new laws stating that we have too many already.

  • 10.11.2011: Occupy Wall Street... ... Just one big, plain, WTF?!

#OccupyWallSt Day Three: Neo-Coms Call For The "Deprivatization of Everything"

Here are the formal "demands" of the #occupywallst protesters:

We need to retake the freedom that has been stolen from the people, altogether.

If you agree that freedom is the right to communicate, to live, to be, to go, to love, to do what you will without the impositions of others, then you might be one of us.

If you agree that a person is entitled to the sweat of their brows, that being talented at management should not entitle others to act like overseers and overlords, that all workers should have the right to engage in decisions, democratically, then you might be one of us.

If you agree that freedom for some is not the same as freedom for all, and that freedom for all is the only true freedom, then you might be one of us.

If you agree that power is not right, that life trumps property, then you might be one of us.

If you agree that state and corporation are merely two sides of the same oppressive power structure, if you realize how media distorts things to preserve it, how it pits the people against the people to remain in power, then you might be one of us.

And so we call on people to act

We call for protests to remain active in the cities. Those already there, to grow, to organize, to raise consciousnesses, for those cities where there are no protests, for protests to organize and disrupt the system.

We call for workers to not only strike, but seize their workplaces collectively, and to organize them democratically. We call for students and teachers to act together, to teach democracy, not merely the teachers to the students, but the students to the teachers. To seize the classrooms and free minds together.

We call for the unemployed to volunteer, to learn, to teach, to use what skills they have to support themselves as part of the revolting people as a community.

We call for the organization of people's assemblies in every city, every public square, every township.

We call for the seizure and use of abandoned buildings, of abandoned land, of every property seized and abandoned by speculators, for the people, for every group that will organize them.

We call for a revolution of the mind as well as the body politic.

    Don't laugh. They're serious.

  • 10.06.2011: More Obama...

SIMPLY AMAZING WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT

Isn't it amazing that, within only one week of Tiger Woods crashing his Escalade, the press found every woman with whom Tiger has had an affair during the last few years?

And, they even uncovered photos, text messages, recorded phone calls, etc.!

Furthermore, they not only know the cause of the family fight, but they even know it was a wedge from his golf bag that his wife used to break out the windows in the Escalade.

Not only that, they know which wedge!

And, each & every day, they were able to continue to provide America with updates on Tiger's sex rehab stay, his wife's plans for divorce, as well as the dates & tournaments in which he will play.

Now, Barack Hussein Obama has been in office for two years, yet this very same press:

    • Cannot find any of his childhood friends or neighbors;
    • Or find any of Obama's high school or college classmates;
    • Or locate any of his college papers or grades;
    • Or determine how he paid for both a Columbia & a Harvard education;
    • Or discover which country issued his visa to travel to Pakistan in the 1980's;
    • Or even find Michelle Obama's Princeton thesis on racism.(*)

They just can't seem to uncover any of this.

Yet, the public still trusts that same press to give them the whole truth!

I find that totally amazing, don't you?

(*Actually, I've read her thesis... In it, she's actually honest enough to admit that the racial prejudice she expected to find and prove wasn't there. But it didn't say she'd stop trying to find it...

"I don't know how you think about this... but here's my view.

FW: S&P Downgrades U.S. Debt Rating, First Time in History

This is what fiscal conservatives (like me) feared.

This downgrade was to be expected when the debt deal did not meet the necessary $4T in net spending cuts.

With the baseline budgeting currently employed by the US government, there's approximately an 8% spending increase to the budget every year -- AUTOMATICALLY increased without discussion!

What household in the world budgets that way?

So in truth, there are no spending cuts with this so-called debt deal, they just slowed down the growth rate of the debt a bit.

So instead of adding $10T to the debt over the next 10 years, they will only be adding $7T -- whoop de do!

    Thank you Obama Administration!

Obama, Geithner, the spending liberals, and the compromising RINO Republicans have just delivered America a painful reality check.

    I answer...

Imnsho... I think it's stupid to look to Moody's to rate government bonds at all. It's not like there's a bunch of ignorant rubes out there buying the bonds for their kids' retirement or college funds, y'know?

I think, as I've said for the past few months about the "crisis," that someone should look into who's likely to be able to make a killing in some financial market as a direct result of Moody's ratings, and then go shoot them.

Smoke, mirrors, bread, circuses, bullshit; again "in my never-so-humble opinion."

And I don't disagree with YOUR position at all!

The profligate spending of stupid people in Congress... both Houses, both Parties, got us here, and for the past decade or two, NOBODY has had the genital fortitude to even consider making ANY "tough decisions" which might have forestalled the issue or put us on a track to avoid future financial problems, let alone financial ruin.

So, as long as the electorate thinks it's getting a bargain by being subsidized or "entitlemented" ... they're going to keep voting the morons into office, where the morons glom onto more and more power and continue to do dumber and dumber things "for their constituents."

Never ending story of stupidity, power and greed.

MAYBE the downgrade might ring some bells or some knock some sense into some of them, but I surely doubt it. I believe that critical thinking, necessary for solving this problem, died in the US some decades ago and has shown no signs of a widespread resurgence.

Actually, I've recently gotten pissed when people say that the government CAN'T be operated on a budget "like us common folks."

We "fellow 'murkins" live on budgets AND we also take on debt, but most do it sensibly. The debts and commitments taken on by the Federal as well as many state governments have been done stupidly and with some hope or dream that "the problems will go away" or "some miracle will save us all."

More lack of critical thinking on the electorate's behalf AND on politicians'.

Here's one of the latest quotes I added to my home page...

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP all sitting members of congress are ineligible for reelection." -- Warren Buffett

They have no self-control, no fear, no will or WON'T-power at all. And the mass media doesn't help AT ALL.

  • 07.14.2011: Congratulations are in order ...

For the Liberal Mass Media for convincing so many stupid, gullible Americans that this is true...

Voters blame Bush more than Obama for the economy.

Voters are increasingly displeased with President Obama's handling of the economy, but a new poll finds most Americans still think George W. Bush is responsible for the nation's dismal financial state.

According to a new Quinnipiac poll, 54 percent of those surveyed say Bush is responsible for the "current condition" of the economy, compared to just 27 percent who blame Obama. Among self-described independent voters, a key 2012 voting bloc, the number shifts slightly: 49 percent point the finger at the former GOP president, while 24 percent blame Obama.

While Obama's approval rating on the economy is nothing short of dismal --just 38 percent approve -- the Quinnipiac poll finds more Americans trust the president on the issue than the GOP congress, 45 percent to 38 percent.

Meanwhile, 48 percent of those surveyed say they will blame the GOP congress if a debt deal isn't approved, compared to 34 percent who say they will blame the Obama administration.

Idiots !!! Both sides are guilty!

One right-wing Christian publisher even wrote that politicians who voted for marriage equality should be "subject to indictment, trial, and punishment" because the vote violates "God's law"!

Our victory in New York has the right-wing riled up because they never thought that a GOP-led state legislature would approve a marriage equality bill and that so many straight allies would speak out for the cause of equality. But there's a fundamental shift underway that you and I have seen coming. We're at a tipping point in our culture and the right knows they're losing -- so they're lashing out."

On average, you've missed a MAJOR point… THE PROBLEM IS NOT CLASS SIZE, and you're apparently not capable of registering that fact.

And that's a shame. It's NOT class size that's THE PROBLEM. Today's Teachers are NOT the right people to ask, and you don't realize that they're not. And especially NOT anyone who's related or employed by a teacher's union, too.

Get a clue… it's the culture that doesn't support learning; it's the demise of critical thinking over the past 3-4 decades; it's parents who send kids to school more for baby-sitting than for education. It's parents that don't value education. It's the mass media that makes fun of anyone with a brain or a technological bent, let alone anyone who's successful in the business world.

In the 50s and 60s, we were more afraid of what our parents would do TO us if a teacher gave us a negative evaluation, NOT how fast our parents would sue the school or the teacher for damaging our fragile little psyches.

And most of the inventions y'all treasure today did NOT come from the current generation's efforts… it was from US. You have no clue.

Ala. town hit by tornadoes bans FEMA trailers

    (Excerpt...)

By JAY REEVES, Associated Press Jay Reeves, Associated Press – Sun May 29, 7:40 pm ET

CORDOVA, Ala. – James Ruston's house was knocked off its foundation by tornadoes that barreled through town last month and is still uninhabitable. He thought help had finally arrived when a truck pulled up to his property with a mobile home from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Then he got the call: Single-wide mobile homes, like the FEMA one, are illegal in the city of Cordova.

The city's refusal to let homeless residents occupy temporary housing provided by FEMA has sparked outrage in this central Alabama town of 2,000, with angry citizens filling a meeting last week and circulating petitions to remove the man many blame for the decision, Mayor Jack Scott.

Ruston and many others view the city's decision as heartless, a sign that leaders don't care that some people are barely surviving in the rubble of a blue-collar town.

"People have to live somewhere. What's it matter if it's in a trailer?" asked Felicia Boston, standing on the debris-strewn lot where a friend has lived in a tent since a tornado destroyed his home on April 27.

Scott has heard all the complaints, and he isn't apologizing. He said he doesn't want run-down mobile homes parked all over town years from now.

"I don't feel guilty," he said. "I can look anyone in the eye."

    AUSTRALIAN LETTER OF THE YEAR

This is an actual letter sent to the DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) Immigration Minister. The Government tried desperately to censure the author, but got nowhere because every legal person who read it nearly wet themselves laughing!

    Dear Mr Minister,

I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this. How is it that K-Mart has my address and telephone number, and knows that I bought a television set and golf clubs and condoms from them back in 1997, and yet the Federal Government is still asking me where I was born and on what date?

For Christ sakes, do you guys do this by hand?

My birth date you have in my Medicare information, and it is on all the income tax forms I've filed for the past 40 years. It is also on my driver's licence, on the last eight passports I've ever had, on all those stupid customs declaration forms I've had to fill out before being allowed off planes over the past 30 years.

It's also on all those insufferable census forms that I've filled out every 5 years since 1966.

Also... would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's name is Audrey, my father's name is Jack, and I'd be absolutely blanking astounded if that ever changed between now and when I drop dead!!!...

SHIT! What do you people do with all this information we keep having to provide??

I apologise, Mr. Minister. But I'm really pissed off this morning..

Between you and me, I've had enough of all this bullshit!

You send the application to my house, then you ask me for my blanking address!!

What the hell is going on with your mob? Have you got a gang of mindless Neanderthal arseholes working there!

And another thing, look at my damn picture. ... Do I look like Bin Laden?

I can't even grow a beard for God's sakes. I just want to go to New Zealand and see my new granddaughter. (Yes, my son interbred with a Kiwi girl). And would someone please tell me, why would you give a shit whether or not I plan on visiting a farm in the next 15 days? In the unlikely event I ever got the urge to do something weird to a sheep or a horse, believe you me, I'd sure as hell not want to tell anyone!

Well, I have to go now, 'cause I have to go to the other side of blanking Sydney, and get another blanking copy of my birth certificate - and to part with another $80 for the privilege of accessing MY OWN INFORMATION! Would it be so complicated to have all the services in the same spot, to assist in the issuance of a new passport on the same day??

Nooooo.. that 'd be too blanking easy and makes far too much sense.

You would much prefer to have us running all over the bloody place like chickens with our blanking heads cut off, and then having to find some 'high-society' wanker to confirm that it's really me in the goddamn photo! You know the photo... the one where we're not allowed to smile?! .... you blanking morons.

Signed - An Irate Australian Citizen.

P.S. Remember what I said above about the picture, and getting someone in 'high-society' to confirm that it's me? Well, my family has been in this country since before 1820! In 1856, one of my forefathers took up arms with Peter Lalor. (You do remember the Eureka Stockade!!)

I have also served in both the CMF and regular Army for something over 30 years (I went to Vietnam in 1967), and still have high security clearances. I'm also a personal friend of the president of the RSL... and Lt General Peter Cosgrove sends me a Christmas card each year.

However, your rules require that I have to get someone "important" to verify who I am; You know... someone like my doctor - WHO WAS BORN AND RAISED IN BLANKING PAKISTAN!!! ..... a country where they either assassinate or hang their ex-Prime Ministers - and are suspended from the Commonwealth and United Nations for not having the "right sort of government.">/p>

You are all pen pushing paper shuffling blanking idiots!

You know you might be surprised to hear about the USPS. I did some work for them a few years ago and it was enlightening.

We kinda think of them as old, sluggish...inefficient. Well it is not true! Yep, they really run a very tight ship ... their money problems are caused by Congress ... seemingly the root of all evil these days. They take the profits they make and give it away to their "pet entities". Yep, its' true and shocking! I was shocked when they told me Congress had taken over $30B of their pension money ... which they now have to replace out of current and future profits!

Shakespeare should have said "First kill Congress!"...but of course he was close with "First kill all the lawyers!"

Bin Laden's One Mistake ... by Shmuel Sackett, International Director, Manhigut Yehudit

One thing made Osama bin Laden public enemy #1.
One thing made him a target for America's hit squad.
One thing -- and only one thing -- made his assassination justified and praised by world leaders.
    He didn't just kill Jews.

Had he limited his terrorism to Jews only, he would not have been targeted.
The same world leaders, who today take great pride in his death, would have celebrated his life.
He would not have been killed by President Obama, he would have dined with him.
He would have been invited to the United Nations.
He would have been a featured speaker on the world speaking tour.
He would have won the Noble peace prize.

    Think I'm crazy?

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the President of Iran. His resume includes a lot more than just politics. It has been proven that he personally ordered the attacks against the Jewish community of Argentina where hundreds of Jews were killed. He has stated -- time and again -- that he wants to destroy Israel. He wants to kill the 6,000,000 Jews (interesting number) who live there and he is feverishly working to build a bomb that will do just that.

    Has he been targeted?
Is this animal on any one's "hit list"?
Actually, just the opposite is true.
He recently spoke in the UN.
He was a guest speaker in Columbia University.
Why? Because he is only interested in killing Jews.

Khaled Mashaal is the leader of Hamas.
Hamas is the sworn enemy of Israel.
It has killed over 1,500 Jews in the last 10 years.
It has fired over 5,000 missiles into Israel, aiming for Jewish homes and hoping to kill Jewish children.

    Has he been targeted?
Is this beast on any one's "hit list"?
Actually, just the opposite is true.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently invited Mashaal to Moscow.
Former USA President Jimmy Carter has embraced Mashaal and considers him a partner for peace.
Why? Because he is only interested in killing Jews.

Yassir Arafat was the founder and leader of the PLO.
He has more innocent blood on his hands than Osama bin Laden.
Yet, this murderer was invited numerous times to dine with President Bill and First Lady Hillary Clinton in the White House.
    He spoke in the UN.
He was accepted around the world as a leader and spoke in over 30 countries.
He won the Noble Peace Prize.
Why? Because he was only interested in killing Jews.

Although I can go on, I will give just one final example: Adolph Hitler.
The world knew about concentration camps as early as 1933.
The world knew about Kristellnacht back in November of 1938.
Yet, the entire world called this monster: Herr Hitler.
    They gave his respect.
They recognized him as a leader.
All that changed when Hitler invaded Poland on September 1, 1939.

From that point on he became an enemy.
Why? Because until that day he was interested in killing Jews only…

Osama bin Laden violated the golden rule: In addition to killing just Jews, he also killed non-Jews. That is why he was targeted and for no other reason!

The message to Jews – and the State of Israel - is very clear:
    Learn to defend yourself.
    Learn to take revenge yourself.
The world will not help you with Iran or Hamas.
Ahmadinejad and Mashaal will not make the same mistake as Bin Laden and will continue to be accepted and embraced by the world.
Understand this, accept this and deal with this.
"We have no one on which to rely, other than our Father in Heaven".
May today's Jewish leaders -- and the brave warriors of the IDF -- engrave this on their hearts.
And may they -- very soon -- do to these terrorists exactly what was done to Bin Laden.

  • 04.21.2011: David Letterman is truly a moron...

Watch the video, listen to Rand Paul, listen to David Letterman; recall how Ayn Rand might comment about how proud Letterman sounded about his ignorance and abject stupidity when it comes to basic economics.

Note that many in his audience agree with him. Are you surprised? You shouldn't be.

    Appalled, maybe, but not surprised!

    Excerpts:

Rand correctly noted that the top 1% of income tax earners pay one-third of all the income taxes, with the top 50% paying 96%. So the "rich" are already paying plenty. Letterman's response? There must be something wrong with those numbers, he said to applause from the audience. So the audience is in effect saying, "We also refuse to believe those numbers!" But those numbers are correct....

Rand explains, again correctly, that spending more money on education has not improved educational outcomes. Letterman's response? Well, education is important, so we've got to try something -- how about spending more money? But by the time of George W. Bush's term, per-pupil spending, adjusted for inflation, had already doubled since LBJ....

Letterman wonders why we can't just loot the "rich" some more. Well, if we'd like to make still more firms leave the U.S., that'd be a good start. Want to strangle the growth on which everyone's welfare depends? By all means pursue this strategy....

Rand points out, correctly, that the compensation package for Wisconsin teachers is extremely attractive, amounting to over $80K annually. Letterman, to general applause, says that figure should be doubled. Isn't education important? This is the level of reasoning people appear comfortable with. On Big Rock Candy Mountain there's a giant pile of cash overlooked by the governor and the rest of us. Don't worry that the pension systems are going to bankrupt the states -- that's nothing a doubling of teacher salaries won't solve.

    Any truth to this?

    CHEVY VOLT

Patrick Michaels is a senior fellow in Environmental Studies at the Cato Institute and the editor of the forthcoming Climate Coup: Global Warming's Invasion of our Government and our Lives, as well as the author of several other books on global warming. His Forbes column on the Chevy Volt is a case study in the nexus between big government corruption and big business rent-seeking.

Michaels briefly recaps the well-known consumer fraud in which GM has touted the Volt as an all-electric mass production vehicle on the supposed basis of which its sales receive a $7,500 taxpayer subsidy, which still renders it overpriced and unmarketable. Michaels notes that "sales are anemic: 326 in December, 321 in January, and 281 in February." There seems to be a trend here.

Michaels adds that GM has announced a production run of 100,000 in the first two years and asks what appears to be a rhetorical question: "Who is going to buy all these cars?" But wait! Keep hope alive! There is a positive answer to the question. Jeffrey Immelt's GE will buy a boatload of those uneconomic GM cars. Here the case study opens onto the inevitable political angle:

Recently, President Obama selected General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt to chair his Economic Advisory Board. GE is also awash in windmills waiting to be subsidized so they can provide unreliable, expensive power.

Consequently, and soon after his appointment, Immelt announced that GE will buy 50,000 Volts in the next two years, or half the total produced. Assuming the corporation qualifies for the same tax credit, we (you and me) just shelled out $375,000,000 to a company to buy cars that no one else wants so that GM will not tank and produce even more cars that no one wants. And this guy is the chair of Obama's Economic Advisory Board?

    But of course.

Michaels includes this hilarious detail in his case study:

In a telling attempt to preserve battery power, the heater is exceedingly weak. Consumer Reports their tests averaged a paltry 25 miles of electric-only running, in part because it was testing in cold Connecticut. (The [GM] engineer at the Auto Show said cold weather would have little effect.) It will be interesting to see what the range is on a hot, traffic-jammed summer day, when the air conditioner will really tax the batteries. When the gas engine came on, Consumer Reports got about 30 miles to the gallon of premium fuel; which, in terms of additional cost of high-test gas, drives the effective mileage closer to 27 mpg. A conventional Honda Accord, which seats 5 (instead of the Volt's 4), gets 34 mpg on the highway, and costs less than half of what CR paid, even with the tax break.

The story of the GM Volt deserves a place in the Harvard Business School curriculum. it is a classic tale of the government deciding what the public needs, not the marketplace.

Yeah, not to mention my 2004 Prius, still getting about 44 mpg, seating 4-5 with fold-down back seats that let me carry 8' lumber home from Lowes or Home Depot...

    From Jason in Japan...

Wind across Fukushima is heading southeast at 1-10 meters per second, still blowing emissions over the Pacific.

The situation at the plant looks worse, however, and the concern is that the containment vessel will be breached and that the spent-fuel pool is without water and emitting radiation.

"Right now we have indications at the site of radiation levels that ... would be lethal within a fairly short period of time," Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko told the House Energy Committee Wednesday. "So they are very significant radiation levels. It is certainly a more recent development that we have seen these very, very high readings. ... We believe at this point that Unit 4 may have lost a significant inventory, if not lost all, of its water. ... There is no water in the spent-fuel pool and we believe that radiation levels are extremely high, which could possibly impact the ability to take corrective measures."

Thus, while radiation levels are low now, they may not stay that way. I'll keep monitoring and update as I can, and include other measurement station data.

    From Stuart in Switzerland...

Chairman Jazko's comments are bullshit (the technical term). Lethal in a short period of time? Lets look at 'radiation'. Three types - alpha, beta and gamma. If you get close enough to any, you might die. By close I mean - 0.1mm for alpha, 5cms for beta and one meter for gamma. This is like saying that if you drive a car you will die - indeed you will if you manage to drive it over yourself or lie underneath it and do a remote start. The guy is an idiot and the least he needs is a course in media communications. IF you get inside the reactor and stay there for a bit, you will die. If you stay outside, you won't and no, you will not die or radiation sickness. Now of course we have the US checking for 'radiation sickness' in travellers coming from Japan. Ooops, let's ignore fact. This thing happened a week ago and radiation sickness takes at least two weeks to materialise? Peksy facts - always getting in the way of the truth! Even the lower levels of the administration have gone bent...

    From Ken in Florida...

Because they don't care about facts, they are pushing their standard anti-nuke agenda. Never let the facts get in the way of exploiting a good crisis. I don't know if they are actually ignorant, or if they are deliberately ignoring the facts that they do understand. I also don't know which way is worse.

Monday on Fox news we learned that the staffers of Congress family members are exempt from having to pay back student loans. This will get national attention if other news networks will broadcast it. When you add this to the below, just where will all of it stop?

35 States file lawsuit against the Federal Government, Governors of 35 states have filed suit against the Federal Government for imposing unlawful burdens upon them. It only takes 38 (of the 50) States to convene a Constitutional Convention.

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws.

The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform... in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

If each person that receives this will forward it on to 20 people, in three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message.. This is one proposal that really should be passed around.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."

    Excerpt...

When the debate over table saw safety gets heated, numbers are brought out to bolster one side or the other. This happened the other day when USA Today published the headline: "CPSC wants to stop daily table saw amputations," followed by a mention in the second paragraph of 10 amputations a day. That sounds pretty serious, maybe somebody should do something about it. Or maybe we should look at where these numbers come from, how they are used, and how they fit in the big picture of modern life.

    ...

While reviewing the numbers, I wondered about how the figures on table saws compared to other items. In 2009, there was an estimated total of about 22,000 finger amputations due to accidents of all kinds in the United States. There is no doubt that table saws are a significant portion of that number. Once again, the database sample is too small to provide estimates for many other items, but there was one item that caused about the same number of finger amputations as table saws, and about 10 times the number of total accidents. In addition, this product caused enough finger amputations among children under the age of 18 to generate an estimate of total occurrences, about 45 percent of the total. Five children a day are enduring finger amputations due to this hazard. The name of this product? The door.

    Excerpt...

Should you read Unequal Protection: The Status of Muslim Civil Rights in the United States 2005, an annual report issued last week by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), you'll learn how the Muslim experience in America is worsening. Specifically, the number of "anti-Muslim hate crimes in the United States" has gone up dramatically: from 42 cases in 2002, to 93 cases in 2003, to 141 in 2004.

This news prompted headlines in the mainstream media. "Muslims Report 50% Increase in Bias Crimes," announced the New York Times; "Crimes, Complaints Involving Muslims Rise," broadcast the Washington Post; and "Muslims Cite a Rise in Hate Crimes," echoed the Los Angeles Times. That these leading newspapers treated the CAIR study as a serious piece of research served as an important endorsement.

But CAIR is part of the Wahhabi Lobby, so (unlike the mainstream media reporters) we thought it a good idea to take a closer look at the report. We examined in detail some "examples of anti-Muslim hate crime reports received by CAIR in 2004," on p. 43, plus some "samples" on p. 53 and discovered a pattern of sloppiness, exaggeration, and distortion...

Amazing list follows. See link. Of twenty "anti-Muslim hate crimes" in 2004 that CAIR describes, at least six are invalid -- and further research could likely find problems with the other fourteen instances.

In fact, some analysts suggest that a performance is all the product release really amounts to. Electric cars are still an extremely minor part of the auto market--only about 2 percent of cars sold are even hybrids. Building an all-electric car provides extraordinary fuel economy credits for auto makers looking to comply with nationally mandated fuel efficiency standards, as well as boosting a progressive, green-minded company image. Skeptics suggest the electric Focus is more about satisfying those requirements than making money.

"There wouldn't be any auto maker making electric cars if not for fuel economy regulations," said Aaron Bragman senior analyst for IHS Global Insight. "They're not a moneymaker."

Muneer Awad, director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations's Oklahoma chapter, filed the suit in U.S. District Court to block officials from certifying the measure. Awad told the Wall Street Journal the measure violates the First Amendment right to practice religion without government intervention.

CAIR legal adviser Gadeir Abbas said SQ755 was "designed to stigmatize Muslims, to turn the Constitution of Oklahoma into a vehicle for oppressing a minority that is currently unpopular."

The "Save Our State Amendment" was proposed by Republican state Sen. Anthony Sykes, who said the amendment isn't about persecuting Muslims but keeping the Oklahoma judiciary system from "sliding down a slippery slope."

Former CIA Director Jim Woolsey, who worked to get the amendment passed, said on Fox and Friends this morning that it's about not allowing criminals to use religious code to circumvent the system when they're "prosecuted for beating or assaulting their wives or daughters."

So, help me understand this... if a religious group believes that their religion's laws supersede local, state or federal laws, how does that plug and play with "separation of church and state"? If the Constitution prohibits the State from interfering with religious rights, does that prohibition also include the "right" to override state or federal laws??? Barkeep! I want a refill!

I was speaking to an emergency room physician this morning. He told me that a woman in her 20s came to the ER with her 8th pregnancy. She stated, "my momma told me that I am the breadwinner for the family." He asked her to explain. She said that she can make babies and babies get money for the family. The scam goes like this: The grandma calls the Department of Child and Family Services and states that the unemployed daughter is not capable of caring for these children. DCFS agrees and states that the child or children will need to go to foster care.

The grandma then volunteers to be the foster parent, and thus receives a check for $1500 per child per month in Illinois. Total yearly income: $144,000 tax-free, not to mention free health care (Medicaid) plus a monthly card entitling her to free groceries, etc, and a voucher for 250 free cell phone minutes per month. This does not even include WIC and other welfare programs. Indeed, grandma was correct in that her fertile daughter is the "breadwinner" for the family.

This is how the ruling class spends our tax dollars.

  • 08.25.2010: The Democratic Party has become the Lawyers Party.
    Think about it...

The Democratic Party has become the Lawyers Party. Barack Obama is a lawyer. Michelle Obama is a lawyer. Hillary Clinton is a lawyer. Bill Clinton is a lawyer. John Edwards is a lawyer. Elizabeth Edwards is a lawyer. Every Democrat nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate). Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school.

Look at leaders of the Democrat Party in Congress: Harry Reid is a lawyer Nancy Pelosi is a lawyer.

The Republican Party is different. President Bush is a businessman. Vice President Cheney is a businessman.

The leaders of the Republican Revolution: Newt Gingrich was a history professor. Tom Delay was an exterminator. Dick Armey was an economist. House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastics manufacturer. The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon.

Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer? Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago and who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting president, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976.

The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work, who are often the targets of lawyers.

The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers. Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick, like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich.

The Lawyers Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America . And, so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers Party, grow.

Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail? Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation.

This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers.

Lawyers solve problems by successfully representing their clients, in this case the American people.

Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side.

Today, we are drowning in laws; we are contorted by judicial decisions; we are driven to distraction by omnipresent lawyers in all parts of our once private lives. America has a place for laws and lawyers, but that place is modest and reasonable, not vast and unchecked. When the most important decision for our next president is whom he will appoint to the Supreme Court, the role of lawyers and the law in America is too big. When lawyers use criminal prosecution as a continuation of politics by other means, as happened in the lynching of Scooter Libby and Tom Delay, then the power of lawyers in America is too great. When House Democrats sue America in order to hamstring our efforts to learn what our enemies are planning to do to us, then the role of litigation in America has become crushing.

We cannot expect the Lawyers Party to provide real change, real reform or real hope in America Most Americans know that a republic in which every major government action must be blessed by nine unelected judges is not what Washington intended in 1789. Most Americans grasp that we cannot fight a war when ACLU lawsuits snap at the heels of our defenders. Most Americans intuit that more lawyers and judges will not restore declining moral values or spark the spirit of enterprise in our economy.

The United States has 5% of the world's population and 66% of the world's lawyers!

Tort (Legal) reform legislation has been introduced in congress several times in the last several years to limit punitive damages in ridiculous lawsuits and to limit punitive damages in huge medical malpractice lawsuits. This legislation has continually been blocked from even being voted on by the Democrat Party.

When you see that 97% of the political contributions from the American Trial Lawyers Association go to the Democrat Party, then you realize who is responsible for our medical and product costs being so high!

Perhaps this is why so many physicians are conservatives or Republicans.

How do the Republicans in Congress compare?...

Have you begun to see a pattern here, yet?

Clinton Invokes Climate Change Debate to Explain Pakistan Floods

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other officials are pointing to the devastating floods in Pakistan and other extreme weather events as signs that climate change is getting worse.

Clinton, in an interview with Pakistan's Dawn TV, said "there is a linkage" between the recent spate of deadly natural disasters and climate change.

"You can't point to any particular disaster and say, 'it was caused by,' but we are changing the climate of the world," she said.

Clinton said that on top of the Pakistan floods, which have forced millions out of their homes, the forest fires in Russia stand as another example. She said there's no "direct link" between the disasters in Pakistan and Russia but that "when you have the changes in climate that affect weather that we're now seeing, I think the predictions of more natural disasters are unfortunately being played out."

Climate change skeptics say the planet is going through natural phases -- the kind it's gone through for eons. Pakistan, in particular, is prone to flooding and is routinely drenched by the monsoon rains. Some officials have partially blamed deforestation and inferior levee systems for the historic flooding which has affected one-fifth of the country's landmass and triggered nearly a half-billion dollars in international aid commitments.

Scientists who study climate change tend to offer more nuance in their explanations of the possible link to a rise in greenhouse gas emissions. They generally say that no one natural disaster can be chalked up to man-caused climate change, but that it can contribute to those disasters happening more frequently and more intensely.

Both the U.N. International Panel on Climate Change and the World Meteorological Organization reiterated that point in light of the Pakistan floods. WMO climate data chief Omar Baddour was quoted saying it's "too early to point to a human fingerprint" behind the recent disasters but climate change may be "exacerbating the intensity" of them.

But some government officials have shown little equivocation in directly linking the Pakistan disaster with climate change.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan's foreign minister, said Thursday that his country's flooding "reconfirms our extreme vulnerability to the adverse impacts of climate change."

    Commentary, in response, from Ken...

Her logic is a joy to behold:

"when you have the changes in climate that affect weather that we're now seeing, I think the predictions of more natural disasters are unfortunately being played out."

We predicted that there would be some natural disasters in the world (please name me a time in history when there wasn't at least one forest fire, flood, tidal wave, extreme heat or cold, somewhere in the world which self-serving people could label "a natural disaster") and there were, so therefore our unsubstantiated assertion that humans are evil is proven.

    You gotta love it..

In the same way, I now predict that a world leader will die sometime in the next 5 years, which is proof that Odin is angry with us and sent Loki to kill them. After all, what other explanation could there be for a world leader to die?

The next big government/Big Labor bailout, By Michelle Malkin, August 17, 2010 09:10 AM

And the hits just keep coming.

Fresh off the $26 billion BigGovJobs union bailout, the Dems are pushing another labor-backed rescue for beleaguered pension funds. Estimated initial cost: $8 to $10 billion, with as much as $165 billion in potential taxpayer-funded liabilities on the horizon.

    The WSJ spotlights:

Congress is gone for August—heaven be praised—but that hasn't stopped unions from quietly mobilizing to push through a big new priority this fall: a pension bailout. Big Labor is going Code Red on the issue, in the face of a looming accounting change that would force companies to confront the Ponzi-style nature of multi-employer pension plans.

We wrote in June about this class of some 1,500 union-run retirement vehicles, in which companies across an entire industry pay into a single pension pool. Hundreds of these multi-employer pools are badly underfunded, thanks to years of labor funneling money into new pay and benefits, rather than into the funds for retirees.

The big problem with these plans is that when one company in the pool goes out of business, the other companies remain on the hook for the cost of the plan. These spiraling liabilities inspired Pennsylvania Senator and Big Labor favorite Bob Casey to introduce legislation to cordon off "orphaned" pensions—those for which an employer has stopped contributing or withdrawn from the plan—and drop them on the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

The PBGC is already significantly underfunded and taxpayers are its ultimate backstop. Yet the Casey bailout could dump as much as $165 billion in new liabilities on the PBGC, while multi-employer plans would get a clean bill of health. What a deal...

    From the Washington Times...
EDITORIAL: Tax dollars to build mosques
U.S. underwrites fundraising tour for Islamic shrine at Ground Zero

The State Department is sending Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf - the mastermind of the Ground Zero Mosque - on a trip through the Middle East to foster "greater understanding" about Islam and Muslim communities in the United States. However, important questions are being raised about whether this is simply a taxpayer-funded fundraising jaunt to underwrite his reviled project, which is moving ahead in Lower Manhattan.

...surely the government could find another such figure in the United States who is not seeking millions of dollars to fund a construction project that has so strongly divided America.

By funding the trip so soon after New York City's Landmarks Preservation Commission gave the go-ahead to demolish the building on the proposed mosque site, the State Department is creating the appearance that the U.S. government is facilitating the construction of this shameful structure. It gives Mr. Rauf not only access but imprimatur to gather up foreign cash. And because Mr. Rauf has refused to reveal how he plans to finance his costly venture, the American public is left with the impression it will be a wholly foreign enterprise. This contradicts the argument that a mosque is needed in that part of New York City to provide services for a burgeoning Muslim population. If so many people need the mosque so badly, presumably they could figure out a way to pay for it themselves.

Americans also may be surprised to learn that the United States has been an active participant in mosque construction projects overseas.

The U.S. government also helped save the Amr Ebn El Aas Mosque in Cairo, which dates back to 642. The mosque's namesake was the Muslim conqueror of Christian Egypt, who built the structure on the site where he had pitched his tent before doing battle with the country's Byzantine rulers. For those who think the Ground Zero Mosque is an example of "Muslim triumphalism" glorifying conquest, the Amr Ebn El Aas Mosque is an example of such a monument - and one paid for with U.S. taxpayer funds.
The mosques being rebuilt by the United States are used for religious worship, which raises important First Amendment questions. U.S. taxpayer money should not be used to preserve and promote Islam, even abroad.

But Section 205.1(d) of title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations prohibits USAID funds from being used for the rehabilitation of structures to the extent that those structures are used for "inherently religious activities." It is impossible to separate religion from a mosque; any such projects will necessarily support Islam.

The State Department is either wittingly or unwittingly using tax money to support Mr. Rauf's efforts to realize his dream of a supersized mosque blocks away from the sacred ground of the former World Trade Center, which was destroyed by Islamic fanaticism. This ill-considered decision will raise the ire of millions of Americans and illustrates the limits of what the denizens of Foggy Bottom know about diplomacy.

I know what my plans are for the next two elections. Do you?

  • 08.11.2010: Is Geithner a moron, or what? ... Isn't anyone thinking???...oh, sorry... I already said that...

Mean Street: Obama's Classless Class Warfare
    By Evan Newmark, WSJ Blogs...

After alienating most white Americans (a dismal 38% approval rate in July), President Obama and his White House gang are launching a fresh "pitchfork and torches" assault on Republicans and America's "rich."

Just consider last week's speech by our mild, wonkish Treasury of Secretary. The only weapon Tim Geithner has probably ever wielded is his HP12C calculator.

But even he's discovered Robespierre's guillotine spirit in ruling out any extension of the Bush tax cuts for American families making over $250,000.

The extension would benefit, he said... "only the top two percent of Americans, who earn on average $800,000 per year...We live in one of the richest economies of the world. But one in eight Americans is on food stamps... The most affluent 400 earners in 2007 -- who earned an average of more than $340 million dollars each year -- paid only 17% of their income in tax, a lower rate than many middle class families."

This is the dry language you'd expect from a career bureaucrat. But beneath his arch tone is real class war demagoguery.

America's rich may make an "average" of "$800,000 per year." But averages are distorting. What is the "median" rich American making?

The richest 400 earners may pay "17% in income tax a year", but what is the rate paid by the majority of America's 2 million "wealthy" earners?

Geithner's not saying. That's because his rhetoric isn't designed to elucidate. It's designed to stoke an election-year agenda.

In his speech, Geithner trots out the predictable "fairness" argument -- that higher tax rates on higher earners magically produce a more "fair" society. Geithner doesn't say what exactly constitutes a "fair" tax policy -- because even he knows that nobody knows.

From World War II until the mid-1970s, the U.K. considered income tax rates of 95% "fair" for hundreds of thousands of its citizens. This fairness almost killed the British economy until Margaret Thatcher thankfully came along.

At least, the British had a long history of inherited wealth to excuse the national impulse for "fairness". But here in the U.S., our rich tend to have the durable, if inconvenient, trait of being self-made.

Of the 40 billionaires in last week's "Giving Pledge," I counted only two (David Rockefeller and Ted Turner) whose fortunes weren't entirely of their own making. To me, this suggests something extraordinary and peculiarly ummm… "fair" about American capitalism.

But wait. It gets even worse. The main thrust of Geithner's argument against extending the tax cuts is its symbolic threat to U.S. austerity. Basically, he says, the bond market would freak out and destroy the U.S. "recovery" if America's rich kept their tax break.

Here is how Geithner put it: "The world is likely to view any temporary extension of the income tax cuts for the top two percent as a prelude to a long term or permanent extension. That would hurt economic recovery by undermining confidence that we are prepared to make a commitment today to bring down our future deficits."

It's remarkable that Geithner could deliver this stuff with a straight face. The Obama White House has spent a year and a half bashing banks, insurers, oil companies, George Bush and the "rich." Our national debt today is over $13.3 trillion. The Obama administration is racking up $1.4 trillion annual deficits.

And Geithner is worried that China won't buy our bonds because of a tax extension that would cost the Treasury a whopping $33.5 billion in 2011. That's right. Were talking about 2.3% of the 2011 deficit and less than 0.8% of all 2011 spending. It's a rounding error.

Extend the cut to ten years and the cumulative cost climbs to $680 billion. Scary? Not really. It's still over $100 billion less than Obama's much-ballyhooed stimulus.

A one-year extension certainly can't be a make or break number because just yesterday the House approved kicking in an extra $26 billion to save jobs for the teachers unions.

Don't worry, said President Obama in the Rose Garden. The $26 billion "is fully paid for, in part by closing tax loopholes that encourage corporations to ship American jobs overseas."

It's hard to see how "closing tax loopholes" on U.S. companies puts them in the hiring mood. Just as it's hard to see how jacking taxes on America's 2 million "rich" will put them in the spending mood.

The White House knows this -- and that's why it's back to class warfare. Losing the battle on the economy is one thing. Getting slaughtered at the ballot box is quite another.

Fool! Idiot! Moron! ... Geithner, that is...

From an email from ACT! For America...

NJ Judge rules it's not rape when a Muslim forces himself on his wife!

Recently, an ABC News story scoffed at the Oklahoma referendum going to the voters that prohibits the courts from using sharia law in their decisions. The implication was that there is no need for this.

    Really?

Jihad Watch reported on Saturday that a New Jersey judge ruled that a Muslim man, accused of forcing non-consensual sex on his wife, was not guilty because of his religious beliefs.

Here is the portion of his ruling that should leave no doubt that Islamic sharia law is penetrating America:

"This court does not feel that, under the circumstances, that this defendant had a criminal desire to or intent to sexually assault or to sexually contact the plaintiff when he did. The court believes that he was operating under his belief that it is, as the husband, his desire to have sex when and whether he wanted to, was something that was consistent with his practices and it was something that was not prohibited."

In other words, the husband's belief in sharia law trumps New Jersey criminal law. The husband did not commit a crime because he was acting according to sharia law.

Fortunately, an appellate court had the good sense to overturn this absurd decision. But don't let anyone tell you we don't need to worry about sharia law being imposed on us here in America! Or on Muslims who don't wish to be subjected to it.

I'll just go with this comment published in response...

"The court believes that he was operating under his belief..."

Oh, OK, well let's just excuse all the Nazis too since they were operating under their "beliefs" that Jews should be exterminated.

News flash to idiot Judge: Islam is a mass-murder uber-misogynist political ideology masquerading as a religion.

  • 07.27.2010:

    In reply to President Obama...

I'm checking this out through Snopes.com, but it's a doozy to just consider! ... Follow the Money? Yep.

    From a friend's email message...

So . . . You think you know quite a bit about Obama and his band of thieves. Read on and see just how little you know. All of this comes together in the last part... a must read.

This is an interesting story put together from various articles and TV shows by the British Times paper. It shows what Obama and his friends are really all about. It's not hope and change, it is money.

I warn you, the first part is a little boring, but stick with it. The second part connects all the dots for you (it will open your eyes). The end explains how Obama and all his cronies will end up as multi-billionaires. (It's definitely worth the read. You will not be disappointed).

A small bank in Chicago called SHOREBANK almost went bankrupt during the recession. The bank made a profit on its foreign micro-loans (see below) but had lost money in sub-prime mortgages in the US. It was facing likely closure by federal regulators. However, because the bank's executives were well connected with members of the Obama Administration, a private rescue bailout was arranged. The bank's employees had donated money to Obama's Senate campaign. In other words, ShoreBank was too politically connected to be allowed to go under.

ShoreBank survived and invested in many "green" businesses such as solar panel manufacturing. In fact, the bank was mentioned in one of Obama's speeches during his election campaign because it subjected new business borrowers to Eco-litmus tests.

Prior to becoming President, Obama sat on the board of the JOYCE FOUNDATION, a liberal charity. This foundation was originally established by Joyce Kean's family which had accumulated millions of dollars in the lumber industry. It mostly gave funds to hospitals but after her death in 1972, the foundation was taken over by radical environmentalists and social justice extremists.

This JOYCE FOUNDATION, which is rumored to have assets of 8 billion dollars, has now set up and funded, with a few partners, something called the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE, known as CXX. It will be the exchange (like the Chicago Grain Futures Market for agriculture) where Environmental Carbon Credits are traded.

Under Obama's new bill, businesses in the future will be assessed a tax on how much CO2 they produce (their Carbon Footprint) or in other words how much they add to global warming. If a company produces less CO2 than their allotted measured limit, they earn a Carbon Credit. This Carbon Credit can be traded on the CXX exchange. Another company, which has gone over their CO2 limit, can buy the Credit and "reduce" their footprint and tax liability. It will be like trading shares on Wall Street.

Well, it was the same JOYCE FOUNDATION, along with some other private partners and Wall Street firms that funded the bailout of ShoreBank. The foundation is now one of the major shareholders. The bank has now been designated to be the "banking arm" of the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE (CXX). In addition, Goldman Sachs has been contracted to run the investment trading floor of the exchange.

So far so good; now the INTERESTING parts.

One ShoreBank co-founder, named Jan Piercy, was a Wellesley College roommate of Hillary Clinton. Hillary and Bill Clinton have long supported the bank and are small investors.

Another co-founder of Shorebank, named Mary Houghton, was a friend of Obama's late mother. Obama's mother worked on foreign MICRO-LOANS for the Ford Foundation. She worked for the foundation with a guy called Geithner. Yes, you guessed it. This man was the father of Tim Geithner, our present Treasury Secretary, who failed to pay all his taxes for two years.

Another founder of ShoreBank was Ronald Grzywinski, a cohort and close friend of Jimmy Carter.

The former ShoreBank Vice Chairman was a man called Bob Nash. He was the deputy campaign manager of Hillary Clinton's presidential bid. He also sat on the board of the Chicago Law School with Obama and Bill Ayers, the former terrorist. Nash was also a member of Obama's White House transition team.

(To jog your memories, Bill Ayers is a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He founded the Weather Underground, a radical revolutionary group that bombed buildings in the 60s and 70s. He had no remorse for those who were killed, escaped jail on a technicality, and is still an admitted Marxist).

When Obama sat on the board of the JOYCE FOUNDATION, he "funneled" thousands of charity dollars to a guy named John Ayers, who runs a dubious education fund. Yes, you guessed it. The brother of Bill Ayers, the terrorist.

Howard Stanback is a board member of Shorebank. He is a former board chairman of the Woods Foundation. Obama and Bill Ayers, the terrorist, also sat on the board of the Woods Foundation. Stanback was formerly employed by New Kenwood Inc., a real estate development company co-owned by Tony Rezko.

(You will remember that Tony Rezko was the guy who gave Obama an amazing sweet deal on his new house. Years prior to this, the law firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland had represented Rezko's company and helped him get more than 43 million dollars in government funding. Guess who worked as a lawyer at the firm at the time. Yes, Barack Obama).

Adele Simmons, the Director of ShoreBank, is a close friend of Valerie Jarrett, a White House senior advisor to Obama. Simmons and Jarrett also sit on the board of a dubious Chicago Civic Organization.

Van Jones sits on the board of ShoreBank and is one the marketing directors for "green" projects. He also holds a senior advisor position for black studies at Princeton University. You will remember that Mr. Van Jones was appointed by Obama in 2009 to be a Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the White House. He was forced to resign over past political activities, including the fact that he is a Marxist.

Al Gore was one of the smaller partners to originally help fund the CHICAGO CLIMATE EXCHANGE. He also founded a company called Generation Investment Management (GIM) and registered it in London, England. GIM has close links to the UK-based Climate Exchange PLC, a holding company listed on the London Stock Exchange. This company trades Carbon Credits in Europe (just like CXX will do here) and its floor is run by Goldman Sachs. Along with Gore, the other co-founder of GIM is Hank Paulson, the former US Treasury Secretary and former CEO of Goldman Sachs. His wife, Wendy, graduated from and is presently a Trustee of Wellesley College. Yes, the same college that Hillary Clinton and Jan Piercy, a co-founder of Shorebank attended. (They are all friends).

    Interesting? And now the closing...

Because many studies have been exposed as scientific nonsense, people are slowly realizing that man-made global warming is nothing more than a money-generating hoax. As a result, Obama is working feverishly to win the race. He aims to push a Cap-and-Trade Carbon Tax Bill through Congress and into law.

Obama knows he must get this passed before he loses his majority in Congress in the November elections. Apart from Climate Change he will "sell" this bill to the public as generating tax revenue to reduce our debt. But, it will also make it impossible for US companies to compete in world markets and drastically increase unemployment. In addition, energy prices (home utility rates) will sky rocket.

But, here's the KICKER (THE MONEY TRAIL).

If the bill passes, it is estimated that over 10 TRILLION dollars each year will be traded on the CXX exchange. At a commission rate of only 4 percent, the exchange would earn close to 400 billion dollars to split between its owners, all Obama cronies. At a 2 percent rate, Goldman Sachs would also rake in 200 billion dollars each year.

But don't forget SHOREBANK. With 10 trillion dollars flowing though its accounts, the bank will earn close to 40 billion dollars in interest each year for its owners (more Obama cronies), without even breaking a sweat.

It is estimated Al Gore alone will probably rake in 15 billion dollars just in the first year. Of course, Obama's "commissions" will be held in trust for him at the Joyce Foundation. They are estimated to be over 8 billion dollars by the time he leaves office in 2013, if the bill passes this year. Of course, these commissions will continue to be paid for the rest of his life.

Some financial experts think this will be the largest "scam" or "legal heist" in world history. Obama's cronies make the Mafia look like rank amateurs. They will make Bernie Madoff's fraud look like penny ante stuff.

    Note which finger he's using...

  • 07.22.2010: Thanks, Ms. Kagan...[link] Now we're really going to go down in flames...

    Excerpts:

Thanks to the work of the Center for Security Policy Director Frank Gaffney and the writing of Andrew McCarthy of the National Review Institute, there has emerged a compelling reason to vote against Kagan's confirmation as a Supreme Court justice: Her support for Shariah Law while she was dean of the Harvard Law School.

At Harvard, Elena Kagan "proceeded to forge the law school's 'Islamic Finance Project."" It's purpose, according to McCarthy, was "to promote Shariah compliance in the U.S. financial sector."

Indeed, when Harvard President Larry Summers -- now in the Obama administration -- accepted a $20 million donation for the creation of a program of studies of Islam's history and Shariah Law, Kagan raised no objection. The donation came from Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a billionaire investor whose contribution of $10 million to the Twin Towers fund was refused by New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani because bin Talal had blamed the 9-11 attack on American foreign policy. Harvard Law School now has three Saudi-funded institutions devoted to the study of Shariah.

Kagan, as a Supreme Court justice, will be required to rule frequently on possible applications of Shariah law in the United States. She has already noted that she welcomes "good ideas wherever they originate" and is open to applications of foreign law to the interpretation of U.S. statutes and common law. In fact, a lawsuit seeking to ban Shariah Compliance Funds in banks that accepted TARP money (as violating the First Amendment separation of church and state) is now making its way up to the Supreme Court. Kagan cannot be trusted to rule dispassionately on this case, nor can we rely on her to exclude Shariah law from American jurisprudence.

For this reason -- if for no other -- senators should vote no on her confirmation.

    excerpt....

We saw how entrepreneurs are being discouraged from offering solutions, and when offered, are met with months of red tape. We observed a claims process begging for transparency. Overall, we witnessed the need for a strong political leader that can be held accountable for the keystone-cop federal effort.

Ineptitude. Incompetence. Inattention. We heard these themes consistently as we traveled across the Gulf, but perhaps the best description came from a local Louisiana official who told our team that the federal response was "stuck on stupid." Indeed.

Obama for offshore drilling in Brazil

This is a perfect example why many refrain from watching the news on ABC, NBC, CBS, or MSNBC.

[Today] on a segment of the "Glen Beck Show" on FOX (Fox Cable News) was the following:

"Today, even though President Obama is against off shore drilling for our country, he signed an executive order to loan 2 Billion of our taxpayers dollars to a Brazilian Oil Exploration Company (which is the 8th largest company in the entire world) to drill for oil off the coast of Brazil ! The oil that comes from this operation is for the sole purpose and use of China and NOT THE USA ! Now here's the real clincher...the Chinese government is under contract to purchase all the oil that this oil field will produce, which is hundreds of millions of barrels of oil"..

We have absolutely no gain from this transaction whatsoever!

    Wait, it gets more interesting.

Guess who is the largest individual stockholder of this Brazilian Oil Company and who would benefit most from this? It is American BILLIONAIRE, George Soros, who was one of President Obama's most generous financial supporter during his campaign.

If you are able to connect the dots and follow the money, you are probably as upset as I am. Not a word of this transaction was broadcast on any of the other news networks!

NASA Chief: Next Frontier Better Relations With Muslim World

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.

Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA's orbit, [Ya think???] Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel. [How, pray tell??]

"When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- he charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science ... and math and engineering," [Start by listing Nobel Prizes in those fields, maybe? How can Bolden increase that number?] Bolden said in the interview.

The NASA administrator was in the Middle East last month marking the one-year anniversary since Obama delivered an address to Muslim nations in Cairo. Bolden spoke in June at the American University in Cairo -- in his interview with Al Jazeera, he described space travel as an international collaboration of which Muslim nations must be a part.

"It is a matter of trying to reach out and get the best of all worlds, if you will, and there is much to be gained by drawing in the contributions that are possible from the Muslim (nations)," he said. He held up the International Space Station as a model, praising the contributions there from the Russians and the Chinese.

Please, see also for reference, my recent Letters at http://www.plusaf.com/letters/obama.htm !!!

    Comment from Ken...

    Alan,
This doesn't bother me at all. It is delivered and received as the politically correct bull shit that it is. Obama clearly doesn't mean it, he is just stroking the audience he (through his surrogate) is talking to at the moment, saying what sounds good at that instant, even if he changes it completely in the very next speech to the next audience. And the Muslims get that completely. It means nothing; just more blather that is dismissed from everyone's mind as the irrelevancy that it is before the echoes have stopped reverberating around the room.

Krauthammer Rips NASA Chief for Declaration to Improve Relations with Muslim World

If you haven't heard the report of the remarks recently made by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden over what the role of his agency, it's a little troubling. And it hasn't gone unnoticed, at least not by syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer

Recently, Bolden, in an interview with Al Jazeera English, said that the "foremost" mission of NASA is to improve relations with the Muslim world. This drew the ire of Krauthammer on the July 5 broadcast of Fox News Channel's "Special Report with Bret Baier." (h/t Gateway Pundit)

"This is a new height in fatuousness," Krauthammer said. "NASA was established to get America into space and to keep is there. This idea to feel good about their past and to make achievements is the worst combination of group therapy, psychobabble, imperial condescension and adolescent diplomacy."

And how does Krauthammer think this should be handled? Assuming Bolden wasn't instructed by President Barack Obama to make this gesture, he said he should be immediately fired for deviating from the intended purpose of NASA. "If I didn't know that Obama had told this, I'd demand the firing of Charles Bolden the way I would Michael Steele," he continued. "This is absolutely unbelievable."

... and a big Amen from me!

NASA to Put Muslim on Moon Using Muslim Technology by Scott Ott .... via Scrappleface

(2010-07-08) — The White House today announced a bold new program consistent with NASA's top priority to help Muslims "feel good about their historic contribution in science and math and engineering," as the space agency's chief, Charles Bolden, recently told al Jazeera TV.

Echoing the words of President John F. Kennedy in March of 1961, President Barack H. Obama told a joint session of Congress, "I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal of landing a Muslim on the Moon, and returning him safely to Earth using only Muslim technology."

According to Mr. Bolden, NASA engineers are already "close to testing" a solid rocket booster powered by combustible animal dung, and operated according to principles discovered by Ibn Al-Haytham Islam's best-known scientist, who died in 1039 A.D..

While President Kennedy put a 10-year deadline on his moon-landing challenge, President Obama said he hopes to achieve this new daring goal "before the millennium is out."

Meanwhile, the chief researcher at Yemen's Muslim World University welcomed the president's announcement, and offered his colleagues' assistance in "targeting the moon landing so that the Muslim astronaut could plant the flag of Islam precisely on the lower tip of the lunar crescent, offering him a clear view of that really big star."

  • 07.03.2010: Pelosi doesn't need to be run out of office; she needs to be committed to a mental institution for the criminally insane!

In http://www.breitbart.tv/pelosi-unemployment-checks-fastest-way-to-create-jobs/ Pelosi states that extending unemployment payments yet again is "the fastest way to create jobs", because people immediately spend the money. She then goes off on a rant with the made-up red herring about how people who oppose this legislation are saying that the only people who want unemployment benefits are those who don't want jobs.

I often am forced to really wonder what color the sky is on the planet that Pelosi inhabits. Indirect transfer of tax money (ie, the money you and I give to the government) to WalMart and the oil companies and the big banks and the utility companies (which is where the bulk of the money goes, for food and clothing and gas and mortgage and utilities) does not create any jobs at all! And as far as I know, no one has said that people on unemployment don't want jobs, it is that they can't find them.

    This woman is simply delusional.

  • 07.01.2010: Democrats Vote Down 5 Percent Rule

In a bid to stem taxpayer losses for bad loans guaranteed by federal housing agencies Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) proposed that borrowers be required to make a 5% down payment in order to qualify. • 06.26.2010: Fox: Obama May Bypass Congress to Let Illegals Stay

The Obama administration has been holding behind-the-scenes talks to determine whether the Department of Homeland Security can unilaterally grant legal status on a mass basis to illegal immigrants, according to Fox News.

The source for this bombshell -- which could ignite a national uproar given that a majority supports tougher laws against illegals -- is an unidentified former Bush administration official who spoke with at least three people involved in those talks.

The issue was raised publicly by eight Republican senators who wrote to the White House on Monday to complain that they had heard the administration was readying a "Plan B" in case a comprehensive immigration reform bill cannot win enough support to clear Congress, according to Fox.

The White House would not confirm or deny the claim. But the former Bush official said the discussions are real.

"The administration at the very minimum is studying legal ways to legalize people without having to go through any congressional debate about it," the source said, calling the senators' claim credible. "Whether somebody pulls the trigger on that, that's another issue."

Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz says he wants to know why taxpayers are being asked to spend money to ensure that illegals get assistance for fair wages while millions of unemployed Americans struggle to find jobs.

    OBAMA: AN INCOMPETENT EXECUTIVE

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

    Published on DickMorris.com on June 14, 2010

Contrary to what the Constitution says, the president does not run the executive branch of the federal government. It runs itself. Following Newton's Laws of Motion, it is "a body in motion that tends to remain in motion in the same direction and at the same speed unless acted upon by an outside force." The bureaucracy keeps doing what it is programmed to do unless someone intervenes.

And that intervention is the proper job of the president. He has to step in, ask the right questions, get inside and outside advice, and decide how to intervene to move the bureaucracy one way or the other. President Clinton had an excellent sense of how to do this and when to get involved. President Obama does not.

When the spill started, he and his campaign staff - now transplanted to the White House - reacted the way a Senator or a candidate would, blaming British Petroleum, framing an issue against the oil company, and holding it accountable. But what he needed to do was to review the plans for coping with the disaster and intervene to move the bureaucracy in untraditional but more appropriate directions. Instead, he let business as usual and inertia move the process.

Now, when it is too late, the U.S. has finally accepted Canada's offer of 10,000 feet of boom. In late May it took 14,000 feet from Mexico, two skimmers from Mexico, and skimming systems from Norway and the Netherlands. Too little too late.

Why didn't the Administration act sooner?

Bureaucratic obstacles stopped it and the president was not involved or active enough to sweep them aside.

Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Christopher T. O'Neil said that "all qualifying offers of assistance have been accepted." But this bureaucratic-speak did not mention that the Jones Act - an isolationist law passed in the 1920s that requires vessels working in American waters to be built and crewed by Americans - disqualified many of the offers of assistance. But Obama could have waived the Jones Act whenever he wanted to.

A Norwegian offer of a chemical dispersant was rejected by the EPA - more bureaucracy.

When Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal sought to create sand berms to keep oil away from the coastline, the Washington Post reported that he reached out to "the marine contractor Van Oord and the research institute Deltares...BP pledged $360 million for the plan, but U.S. dredging companies - which have less than one-fifth the capacity of Dutch dredging firms -- objected to foreign companies' participation."

An activist, involved chief executive would have swept aside these impediments and demanded immediate action. He would have ridden roughshod over bureaucratic and political objections and gotten the cleanup underway.

But this president is no executive. He is a legislator - he is now pushing new environmental legislation. He is a lawyer - his Attorney General is investigating criminal charges against BP. He is a populist - he is quick to blame BP. He is a big spender - he wants a fund to pay the spill's victims. He is all of these things. But he is no chief executive and that, unfortunately, is the job he was elected to do.

  • 06.15.2010: Vote Early, Vote Often ?

In fact, that is what a Federal judge ordered people to do.

"Residents get 6 votes each in suburban NY election" ... details how in Port Chester NY, a judge determined that the people of Port Chester were unable to vote for the people they wanted elected, because only white people had ever won.

That certainly cannot be allowed, so "Something Must Be Done!!!

Vote early and often. It's not just for Chicago anymore...

"Cumulative voting" is a concept like "statistically sampled census" where special interest groups are free to literally make up any numbers that benefit them and stick it to whoever they want to stick it to, with no oversight or basis in reality. If you decide that 10M of your kind of people live in a Congressional district (even one that only exists as the target of Obama's bailout funds), then they do! The fact that the accurately counted total population of the district is 100K is irrelevant: these poor helpless people need funds and votes, and the Federal government and judges are going to make sure they get them...

It's not really voter fraud and educational efforts for the voters may turn out to be a wonderful benefit, but one must ask... "Did a Federal judge have to be the way to make this happen? I think not!
